For the City of Norman, SAE completed the development of plans and specifications for a new public CNG fueling station and a new fleet CNG slow fill station at the City of Norman fleet maintenance facility at 1301 Da Vinci. The public CNG fueling station is located at the Goddard Ave and Flood Ave (Hwy 77) intersection, adjacent to Max Westheimer Airport. This station was funded with a grant from the Dept. of Energy (DOE) through the American Recovery and Rehabilitation Act (ARRA) and was administered by the Oklahoma Dept. of Commerce (ODOC). Another grant for construction of slow fill CNG improvements was provided by the Associated Council of Governments (ACOG) in Oklahoma City. This station consists of two 125hp electric drive 4-stage Arrow Engine compressors with a regenerative inlet dryer, 6 storage spheres, four dual hose dispensers with 2 card readers and 20 dual hose slow fill posts mounted on “K” rails. The Phase II portion of work installed an 80hp natural gas drive 4-stage Arrow Engine compressor along with a natural gas drive generator set. This third compressor provided the City with the capability to produce CNG during power outages. This station has a combined capacity of approx. 375gge per hour for quick fill and slow fill operations. The public quick fill CNG station opened in January 2012; the installation of the redundant natural gas drive compressor was completed in May 2012.
